Is it an on-line system?
Absolutely not! LoanLinx is an "on-premise" system where you retain complete control over the data. We are strongly opposed to any system which puts your data at risk. Please see here for more.
What sort of computer do I need?
LoanLinx is relatively undemanding and will work on most low-cost PC's and networks running Windows XP® or Vista®. You don't need to spend a fortune on hardware. Of course, the more power and memory you have, generally the better the user experience.
Do I need a dedicated server?
A "server" in the technical sense is a high-powered and expensive device and is not essential for LoanLinx to run. In a workgroup situation a stand-alone Pentium PC to hold the shared data file is a good idea but not compulsory. Adding Windows Server 2003 will give better performance and is recommended for 5+ users, though again is not essential.
Do I need other software?
LoanLinx will work substantially as advertised stand-alone, without requiring other application software. However, it is designed as an extension to the Microsoft Office suite, which most brokers already have. For mail-merge you will need Word 2003, for email integration Outlook 2003 and for commission file importing Excel 2003. You do not need Office Professional or Access.
LoanLinx does not include Lender product information or loan-comparison tools (although some free links are provided) as most users who need these have them provided free by lenders or aggregators.
How do I install LoanLinx?
LoanLinx is plug & play – you simply insert the CD we send you and follow the prompts. For more complex sites the installation guide gives you step-by-step instructions. And if you get stuck our Help Desk Heroes can get you unstuck in no time!
Note that some national franchise groups lock users out from installing new software. In this case you need to contact their Help Desk for assistance. However, they are welcome, in turn, to call our Help Desk for assistance!
Will LoanLinx work under Vista?
Yes. You will need at least LoanLinx 5.05 Beta to work under Microsoft Windows Vista® and we recommend you install Vista Service Pack 1. Some minor system changes will be needed to operate correctly, which our Help Desk can assist with.
Can I remote-control LoanLinx?
Yes. Programs like XP Pro's Remote Desktop (see Microsoft site) and LogMeIn (www.logmein.com) will allow you to connect to your office PC when at home or on the road. You can also connect through a VPN. However, LoanLinx Executive and LoanLinx Professional also include the LinxSync™ module which allows off-line work (such as on a laptop) without the need for an internet connection.
What happens to my data if I stop using LoanLinx?
We take the view that the data is yours and always yours. While we would hope you would always find LoanLinx invaluable, if you stop using it you get to keep the data. We recommend you export the data to Excel prior to stopping but, even if you don’t, your data will be retained in a format which can be read by such programs as MS Access and Crystal Reports. But make sure you backup before uninstalling!
Can you (or anyone else) see my data?
No. It's a fundamental principle with LoanLinx that your data is secure. As mentioned above, it's held on your own office PC's, not a third-party server "somewhere" out in the ether. You should naturally use passwords and other security measures as you would for, say, your accounting software and only allow access (such as remote dial-in) to known personnel. But because your confidential data is not on our machines (or an aggregator's or ISP's), you have total control at all times.
